2 jawans of Jharkhand Jaguar Force killed in Maoist attack


Ranchi, Aug 15 (IANS): Two jawans of Jharkhand Jaguar Force were killed in a maoist attack in West Singbhum district in the wee hours on Tuesday.

When food was being supplied from CRPF camp to Jaguar camp in Tumbahka forest under Tonto police station area, Maoists at 12.30 a.m. opened indiscriminate fire in which the two jawans were killed. Though the police also opened retaliatory firing but the Maoists managed to escape under the cover of darkness.

The attack was reportedly carried out by group of Misir Besra, who is carrying an award of Rs 1 crore on his head.

The deceased were identified as Sub-Inspector Amit Tiwari and constable Gautam Rana.

Tiwari, a Palamu resident, was blessed with a baby just three days ago and was about to go back to his family after completing the operation.

The families of those killed have been informed.

Gautam Rana has got the job on compassionate grounds after untimely demise of his father.

As of now, no official statement has been issued by Jharkhand police in this regard.

It's the second attack in the past four days.

On August 11, a jawan was killed while another was seriously injured in an encounter with Maoists, after which Jharkhand police along with CRPF carried out an operation and demolished bunkers of Maoists.
