Repealing of NEP for politics is grave sin: Former CM Bommai

Bengaluru, Aug 15 (IANS): Karnataka's former Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Tuesday slammed the Congress government for announcing the scrapping of the National Education Policy (NEP) from the next academic year.

Speaking to reporters here, Bommai urged the state government to rethink the decision. "It is a great sin to undermine our children's future and scrap the NEP for politics," he said.

"The NEP is designed to suit the needs of the present day. The blueprint of NEP was given consent by the Siddaramaiah-led Congress government between 2013 to 2018. The expert committee headed by Kasturirangan had worked behind it. Kasturirangan who evolved the policy of education for Karnataka state, has framed the NEP for the whole country," he explained.

"The move by the Congress government is nothing but gambling on the future of the children. When a system which is there across the country is not available in the state, how are our children going to compete?" Bommai questioned.

He further stated that this was going to be a big setback for the children from rural backgrounds. "CM Siddaramaiah should not see the NEP with prejudiced eyes. He should rather consider the future of students.

"CM Siddaramaiah should review the decision. If not, it will become inevitable to launch an agitation along with parents and institutions of education," Bommai said.

Talking about the probe into the works done during the tenure of BJP government, Bommai stated, "Three months have passed after CM Siddaramaiah announced the probe regarding the matter. Many reports have been given in this regard and the Congress government did not get anything substantial against the BJP.

"They are trying again to score political points. In the pretext of investigation, the long time is taken for bargaining," Bommai alleged.

Commenting on the statement of Karnataka in-charge of Congress Randeep Singh Surjewala that people who give votes to BJP are "demons", Bommai dubbed it as a "shameful, inhuman and unconstitutional statement".

NEP did not follow due constitutional method to implement. It was implemented unofficially, at an unofficial hour, did not follow parliamentary procedure. It was a one sided, overnight decision, forcefully brought in by BJP govt without taking opposition, stake holders and scholars into confidence. It’s was wise and calculated decision by Siddu repeal this illegal issue with grave SIN.

Bommai ji, NEP or Nagpur Edu Policy or RSS policy has been objected by Educational fraternity along with parents and children's and without the proper debate it has been implemented by your Government as it has been Dictated by New Delhi!!! Politics aside, any new Education Policy has to be debated and also expected suggestions from public before finalizing the same. You have not been debated, discussed and taken unilateral decision???

State Congress Govt under Siddu/Dkshee approved NEP in 2018. NEP not drafted in Nagpur RSS Hq. its drafted by Kasturirangan, who bestowed many award by Congress Govt. He is the former chancellor of JNU and the chairman of Karnataka Knowledge Commission. He was made member of the Rajya Sabha (2003–09) and a member of Planning Commission of India. He was also the director of the National Institute of Advanced Studies, Bangalore, from April 2004 to 2009. He is a recipient of the three major civilian awards from the Government of India: the Padma Shri, the Padma Bhushan and the Padma Vibhushan..remember this Congress usual tactics with Modi Govt..they did it with Aadhar, Ayodhya, CAA,NPR, Manipur..all seeds sown by Congress..

Consent was given by Siddu and DKS to table NEP and discuss and debate about it just like opposition is saying now to learn about UCC in draft form but it never happened then and not happening now. It doesn’t mean it was approved legally by all all parties following due procedure and ready to be implemented. Don’t try to mix up with spices and push it down congress’s throat.
