Mangaluru: Mount Carmel Central School celebrates 77th Independence Day exemplifying patriotism

Mangaluru, Aug 15: The nature favoured the celebration in the open grounds of Mount Carmel Central School, Mangaluru amidst an august gathering of students, staff and parents who waited in silence and reverence for the Tricolour to be hoisted. The chief guest Caroline Pais, vice president of school’s PTA, along with the joint secretary Sr Asha Prima, administrator Sr Carissima and principal Sr Melissa marched in unison with the NCC cadets towards the flag post to the tune of the euphonious school band. The chief guest hoisted the Tricolour to the majestic rhythm of the National Anthem followed by the Jhanda Geet by the students of grade XI. The head girl, Anvila administered the pledge to all. Further, the march past lead by the NCC Cadets, the Scouts and Guides and the students of grade VI to XII was indeed magnificent.

The cultural extravaganza in the school auditorium commenced with an all faith prayer which was followed by a striking welcome dance. The significance and tribute was meaningfully articulated and patriotically portrayed. The National symbols were displayed in a unique way through a melodrama which included a mime show and dances. The dance drama encompassed the time line from 15th August 1947 to 15th August 2023, the struggle and the glory which left an imprint of patriotism and pride. The ode to the veterans was befitting while a fitting tribute was paid to the armed forces. The culmination of the program was heart-warming when all the performers entered the ambience waving the tri-colour with pride.

The speech by the chief guest Mrs Caroline Pais at the event was inspiring and motivational. She praised the students for their excellent performance. By sharing an anecdote of the starfish she emphasized the importance of making a positive impact by individuals, no matter how small it may seem. She quoted the famous line, "Ask not what your country can do for you but what you can do for your country," underlining the importance of active citizenship and personal responsibility in nation-building. The speech highlighted key messages like saving water, avoiding wastage of electricity, planting trees, and cleaning up the local area, thereby promoting a healthy and green India.

The principal Sr Melissa in her appreciation for a spirit filled, patriotic programme by the students of grade IX and XI, reminded the gathering, " Uphold the tradition and culture of our great nation wherever we are and to whatever scale of height one may rise to."

The winners of the various competitions held on the occasion of the 77th Independence Day were felicitated. The program was hosted by grade IX C, D and XI. The vote of thanks was delivered by Arundathi and the event was compered by Hannah, Dawson and Arkha.
