Madikeri, Aug 16: The forest department officials have successfully managed to nab a wild elephant that had been continuously creating trouble and was also responsible for the loss of a human life in Arekaadu village.
The lone elephant aged about 16 years was found at Madara Kuppe of Arekaadu village. The forest department officials nabbed the pachyderm by tranquilising it and shifted it to the Dubare elephant camp. Abhimanyu and Bheema of Mathigodu elephant camp along with Sugreeva and Harsha of Dubare camp were used in the operation to nab this wild tusker.
Forest officials Koodakandi Subbaraya, Gopala, Poovaiah, Baasha, Hanumantharaju and other personnel took part in the operation.
A few days back, Devappa had become the victim of the attack made by this wild elephant while he was driving a tractor in Arekaadu region.
The villagers had expressed anguish and displeasure over the lack of measures taken by the forest department to rein in the wild tusker. However, the forest department officials were successful in nabbing the wild elephant in an operation that lasted two days.
