Bengaluru, Aug 16: Based on the statistics presented by National Organ Donation Organization, Karnataka stands third in organ donation in the country.

From 105 dead organ donors, Karnataka increased the number of 151 in 2022. This is an increase of 43%. As many as 759 organs were retrieved from the dead donors. Aster RV hospital has got the highest number of organ donors in the state.

Speaking on the subject, Dr Chinnadurai, chief advisor critical care of Aster R V hospital, said, “Though Karnataka is doing good, there is more room for improvement. Around 4000 brain dead patients were not identified as probably donors. Doctors should study the condition of patients for a long time. They should confirm the brain death soon and ask their families to donate their organs.

“Though, Karnataka has made great progress, any patient in need of organ donation has to wait for a minimum period of three years. Kidney is the organ that is much in demand in Karnataka followed by liver.

“More and more people have to donate organs. This benefits many receivers. Many programmes in this direction are organized. One donor can save eight lives,” he said.

The RTO and Police should strictly enforce rules for road users , no point praising organ donations when there are so many accidents happening because of rash and negligent driving and unscientific roads and dividers . Police Tarun a blind eye to the rash and negligent driving of Private buses but fine people for minor violations . With the number of accidents happening many more organs will be available for donations !!!!!
