Udupi, Aug 16: Canara Bank circle office Manipal, and treasury/GTPC Manipal wing organized the second edition of ‘Canara Marathon Freedom Run’ on the occasion of Independence Day.
The marathon was held in three categories namely 3k, 5k and 10k. Udupi MLA Yashpal Suvarna inaugurated the 3k run of the marathon. Addressing the gathering, he said, “Udupi has been the birthplace of some major banking institutions. Recently, Syndicate Bank was merged with Canara Bank and both belong to our undivided Dakshina Kannada district. The birth of major banks in undivided Dakshina Kannada suggests the level of farsightedness our people had at that time. It is commendable that today Canara Bank has organized a marathon competition and thus celebrating the 77th Indian Independence Day.”
DGM Mini, H K Ganghadahar Sabitha M Nayak inaugurated the marathon run by releasing the tricolored balloons into the sky. Flag hoisting was also held on the occasion.
General manager M G Pandit, AGMs Vishnu Joshi and Sunil Kumar, senior manager Sachin Shetty, Suraj Uppor, Appu Nayak, manager Durga Prasad, Vishal Singh, officer Anand Col Prakash Chandra, director general services MAHE and other officials were present.
The 3k run began from Canara Bank circle office Manipal and went across Syndicate Circle, Coin Age Circle, V S Acharya statue and Syndicate Circle concluding at Canara Bank circle office, Manipal.
The 5k run began from Canara Bank circle office Manipal, Syndicate Circle, Coin Age Circle, Sai Radha Valley, Country Inn hotel and Syndicate Circle concluding at Canara Bank circle office, Manipal.
The 10k marathon began at 6 am from Canara Bank circle office Manipal, Syndicate Circle, Coin Age Circle, Church Railway Bridge, Sai Radha Valley Country Inn hotel and Syndicate Circle concluding at Canara Bank circle office, Manipal.
Bank officials of various branches, officers, students of various institutions, retired officers, doctors of Kasturba Hospital Manipal, and the public participated in the marathon.
The winners were awarded with exciting prizes.
