Bengaluru, Aug 16: Former chief minister Basavaraj Bommai said attempts are being made by certain forces to make India an Islamic country while on the other hand efforts are on to build a strong and able nation under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Addressing the BJP workers at the state party office after unfurling the national tricolour on Tuesday, August 15, he said the country needs Modi's leadership as he has given a positive direction to the country over the last nine years and in the history of an independent nation.

Bommai said Article 370 had been abrogated in Jammu & Kashmir and the country has made progress on all fronts including science and technology.

He said while some of our opponents had praised Modi's leadership there were some others who went abroad and brought out their hatred towards India by stating that minorities were not safe.

He said it is for everyone to see the poor living conditions of Muslims living in majority in some countries. "There are attempts being made to convert India into an Islamic country and it is in this context that India needs Modi's leadership as well," he said.

He said the people should work unitedly with Modi to achieve progress and prosperity.

He said all religions of the world were born out of struggle. But, it is Hindu religion alone that has blossomed out of righteousness. "There are a number of unknown people who have fought for India's independence but there is no one who has come forward to tell the truth." he said.

Kittur Rani Chennamma, Sangolli Rayanna, Bala Gangadhara Tilak, Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and many saw luminaries did not belong to any party he said, adding that Subhash Chandra Bose though a Congressman had quit the part to take active part in the freedom struggle.

Bommai said Britishers had partitioned the country while the Congress had agreed to partition to gain political power. "Bharat Thodo began then itself. But, now they are now embarking on Bharat Jodo Yatra and that is the irony of the Congress party," he said.
