Bantwal, Aug 16: In a disturbing incident, a group of five men on motorcycles reportedly intercepted individuals transporting cattle, subjecting them to assault with a baseball bat and knife, and issuing threats of harm. The accused have been identified as Jaya Prashanth, Laksmisha, and three others.

Moosa (55), a resident of Pathoor village in Manjeshwar, who was victimized in the attack, has lodged a complaint with the police detailing the incident. The accused face charges under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including 341 (wrongful restraint), 307 (attempt to murder), 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 506 (criminal intimidation), 143 (unlawful assembly), 147 (rioting), 148 (rioting armed with a deadly weapon), and 149 (every member of unlawful assembly guilty of an offense committed in prosecution of common object).

Reportedly, the incident unfolded when four men, including Ibrahim alias Monu, Hameed alias Jalal, and Hameed from Salethoor, procured cattle from Mulia. The animals were loaded into a goods vehicle and were en route to Kaje on August 15.

On the morning of August 16, a gang of assailants waylaid the transportation vehicle using three motorcycles and a car. The assailants forcibly removed the four men from the vehicle and subjected them to a brutal assault involving a baseball bat and a knife. Threats of more harm were also made.

Police have registered a case and are currently investigating the incident.
