We had gotten used to "animals rescued and accused abscond" kind of situation for a long time. However, it also begs a question though, what is the legal method of transporting cattle? Is there some declaration needed and permit sought? Is this information available freely? Even those who waylay, how do they know that the cattle is for slaughter and slaughter only before they take law on to their own hands? At the very least, they could have called police rather than assuming the duty of police department and justice department all at once, then and there itself.

I am merely speculating about the reason behind his suicide. I believe it may be related to financial issues. Most of the Karyakartas of the BJP come from poor financial backgrounds. They often borrow large sums of money to keep up with the lifestyle of other BJP members. Sometimes, they even have disputes with their own family members over property. Additionally, they often come from hierarchical families where the most senior members can be very domineering.
