Defamation Case Against Achuthanandan Withdrawn

Palakkad, Aug 6 (IANS): Lathika Subhash, the Congress candidate who contested against V.S. Achuthanandan in this year's assembly polls, Saturday withdrew her defamation petition against the former Kerala chief minister.

The petition was to come up for hearing at the Palakkad district sessions court Saturday.

Speaking to reporters at the court premises, she said that she took the decision after considering a few things.

"One of the reason was considering the age of Achuthanandan, another reason was the statement that he made after I filed the petition and also the numerous responses that I came across after he first made the comments," said Subhash.

Ahead of the April 13 assembly polls, Subhash had approached the court alleging that Achuthanandan had made disparaging remarks about her.

Achuthanandan, 87, trounced Subhash by a margin of 23,440 votes in the Malampuzha assembly seat.
