Udupi: Musical Bonanza of Old Rafi Hits Mesmerizes Audience

Udupi, Aug 6:  A musical bonanza of old rafi hits was organized by Taraana Group, in commemoration of the 31st death anniversary of legendary singer Padmashri Mohammed Rafi at Syndicate Bank Golden Jubilee Hall, recently.

The programme was inaugurated by T Sathish U Pai, M D Manipal Media Network ltd along with Sandya Pai, editor of Taranga weekly, Pascal B Pinto, NRI president of Mohammed Rafi foundation Kuwait/mangalore, Pradeep Saxena, G M, Syndicate Bank and Jerry Vincent Dias, president of Builders Association, Udupi.

Ivan D’Souza, secretary of Taraana Group and Ganesh Naik, vice-president of Taraana Group were present on the occasion. Tagore who has already created a national record by singing for 12 hrs continuously without referring to any written script was the centre of attraction. He began the show with the song “ bikergayee bachpan ke sapne”. This was followed by ‘ye mera preem patr padke, baar baar deko, yaad na jaaye , madhuban me radika naache, japan love in Tokyo.

Tagore took the audience to the world of melody by singing hit no’s one by one. There was wonderful applause from the audience in the jam packed auditorium. Most of The audiences were doctors and intellectuals from Manipal University. There was such an involvement form the audience that one lady doctor of MMC and a lady along with a little girl were inspired to come to the dias and dance to the tune of the classical no madhuban me radika naache re.

The lady doctor expressed her opinion that even though Rafi saab is no more with us he has left his soul in the form of Tagore and also said that she is tempted to dance when Tagore sings. Ivan D’Souza sang pukaartha chalaa hoon mein and Ganesh Naik sang likke jo kath tuje.

Ivan honoured Pascal Pinto on behalf of taraana for his social work. He mentioned that mr pinto was the driving force behind the commencement of direct flight service from Kuwait to mangalore and wished him and the canara chamber of commerce all success in their endeavour of pressurizing the Govt of India for recognition of mangalore airport as international airport . The programme concluded with the song jane wallo jara mudke deko muje by tagore and the dias was over crowded with audience to thank Tagore for the melodious songs.
