Udupi: Elderly woman waiting to cross road killed by speeding bus

Udupi, Aug 18: A woman who was waiting to cross road and was knocked down by a private bus, succumbed to injuries in the hospital.

The deceased is identified as Vasanti Nayak (70), a resident of Parkala. She had come to Parkala to buy medicines from Janaushadha medical shop and was waiting to cross road near divider on Atradi-Manipal road. A bus that was moving to Atradi at high speed from Manipal, knocked her down. Vasanthi received grievous injuries to her head, chest and stomach.

Though Vasanti was admitted to private hospital in Manipal, she succumbed to injuries. She is survived by two daughters.

A case in this connection is filed in Manipal police station.

    Saddened to read this news. May her soul rest in peace we pray. May God give strength to the family to bear this loss. Because of this driver's negligent driving one life is lost. Yet again, bus drivers prove to be dangerous. Least that authorities & RTO can do is just cancel DL of this driver, never again he should be allowed to drive in his life. Bus owner should compensate to the family of the deceased. Unless our systems change in punishing the erring drivers, these incidents will continue. Bus owners will bribe the concerned officials and hush up the case.
