Punjab: Man sentenced to 3.5 years RI in PMLA case linked to heroin smuggling


New Delhi, Aug 19 (IANS): A special court, PMLA, Jalandhar has sentenced a man to over three years rigorous imprisonment in connection with money laundering case related to drug smuggling.

The court on Thursday sentenced Navdeep Singh under various sections of PMLA. It also imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 on him, failing which Singh will have to undergo further rigorous imprisonment for three months.

It also directed for confiscating Rs 9,00,000 which were seized by the ED officials as proceeds of crime.

The ED initiated investigation based on an FIR registered by PS Narcotics Cell, Amritsar, Punjab under various sections of NDPS Act and Arms Act against accused Navdeep Singh and others.As per the police investigation, Navdeep Singh, Sarabjit Singh and Pal Singh (since deceased) in connivance with Rupinder Singh alias Rob Sidhu, a Canadian Citizen, used to smuggle heroin.
