Mangalore, Aug 7: A week-long programme on breast feeding was held from August 1 to August 6 by the department of pediatric and obstetrics, Father Muller College of Nursing, along with the department of pediatric medicine, Father Muller Medical College.

Fr Denis D'Sa, administrator of Medical College and College of Nursing, highlighted the need for preserving the natural against the artificial. Fr Richard Coelho, the administrator of the hospital, Dr Sanjeev Rai, chief of medical services, Sr Aileen Mathias, nursing superintendentent and Sr Winnifred D'Souza, principal, College of Nursing and Sr Flora, HOD of OBG nursing, teaching staff, and students and OPD patients were present on the occasion.

Dr Varadharaj Shenoy, HOD of pediatric medicine welcomed and spoke on the theme "Talk to Me! Breast Feeding, A- 3 D Experience" wherein he mentioned the importance of the public awareness on breast feeding.

Charts on the subjects were displayed in the hospital for public information. Prema D’Souza, HOD of pediatric nursing proposed the vote of thanks.

Talks on breast feeding were addressed to the youth at St Aloysius College and St Agnes College by Prema D’Souza, attended by arounf 800 degree students.

A quiz and a talk were also arranged for the postnatal mothers in the maternity wards of the hospital, Urban Health Centre, Jeppu and Primary Health centre, Mullerkad. Around 150 new mothers participated in the programme. A baby show was conducted in Mullerkad and prizes were distributed to the winners.

A talk was telecast on V4 news 24x7 channel by Prema D'Souza on Friday August 5 at 8.45 pm and 8.45 am on Saturday August 6.

The programme highlighted the importance of breast feeding, its merits, exclusive breast feeding and the utilization of public and media in promoting the breast feeding campaign.
