Udupi, Aug 20: The installation of new governor and new cabinet of Lions district 317 C was held on August 19 here in Amrut Garden.
Dr Nery Cornelio, was installed as the new governor of Lions district 317C by the installing officer Lion K G Ramakrishna Murthy, past international director.
The first lady of the district Ophilia Philomina Cornelio inaugurated the programme by lighting the lamp.
Dr Gerald Issac Lobo, Bishop, Diocese of Udupi, graced the occasion. In his blessings note, he said, "Dr Nery Cornelio embodies himself in lionism through service in education. Both Lionism and faith propagate service. Both call us to be agents of positive change in the community through service. Through his efforts Dr Nery Cornelio illuminates countless lives. His leadership is defined by the impact he creates through his works. I extend my heartfelt wishes to Dr Nery Corenlio for taking over as district governor. Your tenure will be a remarkable tenure in the history of Lions. Let us all rally behind the district governor and support him in his works".
In his opening remarks, Dr Nery Cornelio said, "Lions District 317C consists of Udupi, Davanagere and Chitradurga revenue districts. The district consists of more than 3000 members, and has involved itself in the various social activities through eye hospital, school and community kitchens. The new cabinet members are filled with enthusiasm to work towards the betterment of the society".
In his installation address, Lion K G Ramakrishna Murthy, past international director, said, "Lions was established with a service motive. There was nobody to support the people during the first world war. Our founder decided to start this movement to support the downtrodden. During the second world war of 1945 when the countries decided to restore international peace by founding a new international body, the world leaders contacted our founder and then president for drafting a charter. The Lions charter was accepted by the United Nations and even today, Lions has a permanent status in the UN."
Addressing the gathering, past international director Lion K Vamshidhar Babu, said, "Unless we change ourselves we cannot change the world. Lions are a journey. If we can make our community understand how the service helps the community, the community will also join hands in our deeds."
Valentine D'Souza, DySP Karwar was also honored on the occasion. Richard Dias, district cabinet treasurer, introduced Valentine D'Souza.
As a service activity, laptops were distributed to 10 schools of the district sponsored by the Lion G Srinivas, past district governor district 317E.
The district directory was released by Sapna Suresh, second vice district governor. George D'Souza, editor was also honored on the occasion for his service.
Rajashekaraiah, muncipal council chairperson also addressed the gathering.
Lion Dr M K Bhat, immediate past district governor Lion Raviraj Nayak, district cabinet secretary Leo Adithya R Shet, Leo district president Lion Dr Tallur Shivaram Shetty, district chief consultant Lion N M Hegde, district chief advisor Lion Jayakar Shetty Indrali, district chief ambassador Lion Prakash T Soans, district chief emissary Lion Jerald Fernandes, co-chairperson Lion Hariprasad Rai, co-chairpersons Lion Melwyn Aranha, co-chairperson and other office bearers were present during the occasion.
Chairperson Lion Suguna Kumar welcomed the gathering. Installation committee secretary Umesh Nayak proposed a vote of thanks. Dr Jagadeesha Holla and Nachiketha Nayak compered the programme.
