Mangaluru: Second round of 59th Konkani Natak Sabha's singing competition held

Mangaluru, Aug 21: The second round of 59th edition of the Konkani Natak Sabha's (KNS) singing competition took place on Sunday, August 20, from 9.30am onwards at Don Bosco Hall in Mangaluru, as part of the annual competitions.
 
The event commenced with a prayer and the KNS Anthem. Liston Derrick D'Souza, vice-president of KNS, extended a warm welcome to the participants and attendees.
 
The competition was inaugurated by lighting the lamp. KNS vice-president Liston D’Souza, Floyd D'Mello, general secretary KNS, Cletus Lobo, assistant secretary of KNS, were accompanied by competition judges for lighting the lamp.
 

 


 
























 









 
Later in the afternoon session, KNS president Rev Dr Rocky D'Cunha and Santhosh Sequeira Kankanady, philanthropist and well-wisher of KNS were present.
 
Addressing the gathering, Rev Dr Rocky D'Cunha, president of KNS shared his insightful thoughts on the significance of Konkani Manyata Divas, as August 20 is celebrated as "Konkani Recognition Day" celebrating the inclusion of Konkani as an official language in the eighth schedule of Indian Constitution, on August 20, 1992.
 
This round was a television round which will be later telecasted in episode-wise from mid-September every Friday 9 pm to 10 pm on Daijiworld 24×7 Television. 
 
Renowned musicians and singers Alwyn Noronha Bajpe, Ivan Sequeira, Jude Fernandes, Sylvia Bennis and Meera Florence Crasta served as the esteemed judges for the competition.
 
A total of 133 entries from 12 different categories with 248 participants qualified for the second round. Various age groups, ranging from Below 10 years, 10 to 15 years and above 15 years showcased their talents in solo, duet, mixed group and married couple categories.
 
The competition received valuable support from Alwyn D'Souza Bajal, Shanthi Dias, Deliya Ivin Crasta, Gerald Concessao, treasurer of KNS, Stany Bela production manager of Daijiworld 24×7 and assistance from KNS managing committee members and KNS unit members.
 
KNS manager Boniface Pinto, and former vice-president of KNS Sunil Menezes handled the computation of scores.
 
Daijiworld.com are the media partners and Daijiworld 24×7 are the television partners of the event.
 
Floyd Dmello compered the programme and concluded with a vote of thanks.
