M'luru: St Agnes College organizes student enrichment programme 'Career Avenues in English'

Mangaluru, Aug 23: The Department of English, St Agnes College (Autonomous), organized a student enrichment programme on August 22 titled 'Career Avenues in English' for the students of English major. Toastmaster Suneetha Pereira, who is an English language trainer and has held teaching positions both at school and college levels in her early career was the invited speaker and chief guest for the programme.

The programme commenced with a lyrical invocation after which the chief guest was introduced and welcomed by Nandana Prem, III BA addressing the student audience from the English major batches the chief guest said that she graduated in English four decades ago and she faced almost the same doubts and challenges that the students of today face; she said that the students today are indeed fortunate to have access to a wide arena of opportunities and resources, particularly due to the advancements in technology. She urged the students to take active part in seminars and also get involved in student clubs and such other academic and co-curricular activities as it could help them to develop their leadership skills and contribute to team building skills.

She also told them that it was equally important to develop hobbies and master some crafts, just as much as it is important to pay back to society through community service activities. Speaking on the importance of good communication and language proficiency she said “Remember that language is a medium through which we acquire and record all experiences.” She said that students must richly feed their curiosity and diverse interests and they are bound to find success when they repeatedly work on themselves and their area of interests respectively.

On this occasion, the department recognized and rewarded the efforts of two student achievers who had topped the 1st and 2nd year degree examinations in the academic year 2022-23, they were Kaamila Jinan for semesters 3 and 4 and Sr Pauline for semesters 1 and 2. The chief guest presented the student achiever with books. The memorable highlight of the programme was the performance of a short spoof of Julius Caesar. The programme concluded with the vote of thanks followed by refreshments offered to the gathering.
