Udupi: Accused consumes pesticide after police arrives to arrest him, hospitalised

Udupi, Aug 25: An accused consumed poison on seeing the police, who came to arrest him with a court warrant, got sick and was hospitalized.

Karunakara Shetty (44), a resident of Mucchoor in Mangaluru was one of the accused in a case pertaining to 2017 that occurred under the limits of Bajpe police station. The court ordered the police to arrest him.

Accordingly, police arrive at Shivalli in Udupi, on definite tip off that the accused is working at Rasika Bar in Shivalli at around 3.30 pm on August 24. Police inquired with Pramod, one of the worker in the bar about accused Karunakar.

Later, Karunakar said that he will change his dress and come with the cops and went to his room. He consumed some pesticide. Karunakar fell sick while going with police in their jeep. He was taken to Mulky community health centre for treatment and later admitted to hospital in Mangaluru for advanced treatment.

A case in this connection is registered in Udupi city police station.
