Mangaluru: Police nab man who tried kidnap, robbery with toy pistol

Mangaluru, Aug 25: The Pandeshwar police arrested one of the duo who had tried to kidnap and rob an acquaintance using a fake pistol. Naufal and Pucha had jointly abducted Attavara, Sturrock road resident Mujib Sayyed known to them on May 12, brandishing a toy pistol. They had demanded Rs 5 lacs and a car from Mujib.

When he refused, they had kidnapped him, robbed his car bearing the registration number KA19 M 4730, a Vivo mobile phone handset with sim bearing the numbers 9535037501 and 9901475081, Rs 18,000 in cash and a mobile phone handset of OPPO company that was with Mujib's daughter.

The abductors had then taken Mujib Rehman to areas such as S L Mathias Road, Falnir, Kankanady, Pumpwell, Ujjodi, Jeppinamogaru, Kabristan Road etc before taking him to a deserted place where he demanded Rs 5 lacs and a car from him.

They had brought him back near Mak Apartments on Sturrock road where he summoned Mujib's wife and children near the car and forced them to sit inside the car.

Meanwhile, Mujib pretended that he was making his wife and children sit inside the car when he got down from the car before getting his daughter out from the back seat of the car swiftly. As Mujib's family members refused to sit inside the car, Naufal and Pucha had fled with the car bearing the registration number KA 19 ML 4730 and Mujib filed a complaint in this connection with the Mangaluru south police station.

The complaint was registered under the number 61/2033 and under IPC Sections 392, 363 and 34.

Mangaluru south police recovered the car KA 19 ML 4730 near the New Chitra Talkies on May 12, 2023 in the night. The car was released to its rightful owners as per court orders.

Naufal (31), a resident of Bajal, Mangaluru was remanded to judicial custody under the Mangaluru rural police station limits. Mangaluru south police station inspector Lokesh A C obtained his custody on August 24, 2023 for interrogation. Two mobile phone handsets, a car key and a toy pistol which he said had been kept at his residence were recovered on August 25.

Mohammed Nishak alias Pucha, a resident of Padil, Naguri who was involved in the case has gone absconding.

The operation was conducted by Mangaluru south police station inspector Lokesh A C, police sub inspector Manohar Prasad P, Anant Murdeshwar, and Mangaluru south crime investigation department personnel under directions and guidance from senior police officials.
