KSRTC buses to have panic button for safety of women passengers

Daijiworld Media Network – Bengaluru (MS)

Bengaluru, Aug 26: The KSRTC management has decided to install a panic button and GPS tracking system in buses for the safety of women passengers.

Pressing of a panic button in the bus will send information to the central control room of the KSRTC, whereby the control room personnel will alert the driver and conductor. In addition, a GPS system will help track the vehicle and information will be given to the local police station.

As per information relayed by a senior official of the KSRTC, this decision was taken in a recent meeting. The cost of the project would be Rs 30.74 crore.

Transport minister Ramalinga Reddy said, “All 8000 KSRTC buses will have premium and non-premium buttons with GPS system. This project will have two-third funding from the union government and one-third by the state government. Control rooms will be established in Bengaluru.”

In a bus the conductor or Driver is maximum 10 metres away and also there will be passengers as well. I do not understand the necessity of this expenditure.

Pulling emergency chain even in local trains without sufficient cause attracts fine and even imprisonment; in the absence of any such deterrent, this type of open system is going to misfire especially considering the crowd traveling in these buses!!

Good idea; but considering the crowd traveling, they need to be trained or else the buses may have to force stop every half an hour due to false calls!!
