Kundapur youth Prithviraj Shetty selected for Deaf T20 Cricket World Cup

Kundapur, Aug 28: Indian team for the Deaf T20 Cricket World Cup which will take place at the end of this year at Qatar is announced. Prithviraj Shetty Hunchani, a native of the taluk is selected in the team. He is the only player from Karnataka in the national team for deaf.

Prithviraj is the son of Late Subhashchandra Shetty and Sheelavati couple of Golihole village of Byndoor taluk. Though he was born deaf, it did not deter him from achieving his dream of playing cricket.

Prithviraj is the alumnus of Wagoti School for differently-abled children of Moodbage Amparu. He plays for Torpadoes team of the city and works as part time trainer of Chakravarthy cricket team. He is the captain of Karnataka speech-impaired cricket team. The 32-year-old Prithviraj is the main pace bowler of the Indian team and lower order batsman. He had given excellent performance in the triangular one-day series and Champions Trophy tournament that was held recently.

The Deaf T20 Cricket World Cup will take place from December 1 to 12 at Doha, capital city of Qatar. Veerendra Singh is leading the Indian team and all-rounder Sai Akash is the vice-captain.
