K S Eshwarappa's reference to Shivaji's contributions sparks row

Bagalkot, Aug 28 (IANS): Former minister and BJP leader K.S. Eshwarappa sparked a row on Monday while referring to the contributions made by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj,

He made the remarks at Bagalkot while referring to the contributions made by the Marathi warrior king.

Recently, the civic authorities in Bagalkot had removed a statue of Shivaji that was installed by some activists, citing that due permission was not obtained to put up the statue.

Condemning the move by the Congress government, Eshwarappa said that if not for Shivaji, "we all would have been cut", as he made a gesture with his hands.

The Congress leaders are under an illusion that by insulting those who made sacrifices for the country, they could get the votes of the minority community, Eshwarappa said.

"The Congress government is supporting anti-nationals. Why was the Shivaji statue removed within two days of its installation? One of the Congress ministers had even threatened the SP and DC to remove the statue of Shivaji," Eshwarappa claimed.

"The act of removing Shivaji's statue is just not an insult to Bagalkot, but it is an insult to the whole Hindu community. But they (Congress) will suffer for their deeds in the future. If not for Shivaji Maharaj, people like you and I would not have existed. Everyone would have been cut,” he said.

Eshwarappa also challenged the authorities to book a case against him for his “cut” reference.

"It is only because of Shivaji Maharaj that we are having identity as Hindus," he added.

The gesture and the remarks of Eshwarappa have been condemned by some political thinkers.

You are well known for your eccentric talk and you are a foul-mouthed person from any angle. At lease keep your lips tightly closed so no spillage of bacterial virus escaping to contaminate the surroundings.🙏

Jhoota number 1 an illiterate of history fooling general public like him... Shivaji had so many Muslim commanders under him.. Those days king never fought for Religious dominance but for their own interest of expanding kingdoms. Those days country was not like what we see today, places were divided and were princely states under their defined boundary.. There was no concept of India or Bharath.. There were at least 13 major Muslim commanders or soldiers in Shivaji's army: Siddhi Hilal, Daulat Khan, Ibrahim Khan, Kazi Haider, Siddi Ibrahim, Siddi Wahwah, Noorkhan Beg, Shama Khan, Hussain Khan Miyani, Siddi Mistri, Sultan Khan, Dawood Khan and Madari Mehetar.... There were 8 ministers among them 2 were Muslims... Shivaji always respected Muslim saints Yakut Baba... He had qazis (Muslim judges) on his payroll... The list is endless...Now tell me who are these Sanghi leaders and bhakts fooling??

@Anil May be you learnt from Sanghi Shakas and check your facts from British libraries by British historians... Except couple of early invaders such as Ghori and Ghazni none came here for Religious dominance.. Even they came here for expansion of kingdom and in the pretext destroyed everything including temples... By the way the truth is they weren't Religious personality...
