Mangaluru: Absconding accused arrested after 27 years

Mangaluru, Aug 29: Urwa police took into custody P Manoj (52), a native of Calicut Paropadi Chevayoor, who was absconding since 27 years after given bail in a theft case.

Manoj was apprehended by the police at Calicut. In the night on December 24, 1996, an Omni van owned by Vincent Pereira was parked by driver Damodar next to his home in Kottara. On December 25 morning, it was not at the spot where it was parked. A case was filed in Urwa police station.

During interrogation, Manoj confessed to the theft and he was later give bail. But he escaped and did not attend the court hearings.

Now, after 27 long years, Manoj was caught and produced in the court. He was sent to judicial custody.
