Bantwal: Forest dept officials seize vehicle, timber worth Rs 7 lac at B C Road junction

Bantwal, Aug 30: A team of Bantwal forest department officials have arrested the accused and recovered logs of wood (timber) of various trees being transported valued at lakhs of rupees on Tuesday, August 29 on B C Road.

Acting on definite information that timber obtained from axing of trees were being transported to use them as firewood (fuel), the Bantwal zonal forest officer Rajesh Baligar led a team in raiding a vehicle at B C Road junction and seized the vehicle.

The lorry and firewood seized have been valued at about Rs 7 lac, according to estimates.

Sub-divisional forest officers Preetham S and Yashodhara, forest conservators Jithesh P, Dayananda, Shobith and driver Jayaram of the zonal forest office were involved in the operation.

Further investigations will be carried out by forest zonal officer Rajesh Baligar under the direction of assistant forest conservator Anthony S Mariyappa and Sridhar P's guidance.

    How the trees were allowed to be cut -- so officials are hand in glove while cutting at source ---- regular racket -- It is said Rs 7=00 lakhs -- value and to be used for firewood -- surely fire wood would not be so expensive in one lorry load -- this is more valuable -- Teak etc -- mixed -- with jungle wood--

    CCTV CAMERAS of every lorry and transport should be captured .....there is lot of passing business ...western ghats will be barren if timber mafia is not controlled and monitored
