Mangaluru: 23-year-old conductor dies after falling from moving bus

Mangaluru, Aug 30: In an unfortunate incident, a private bus conductor lost his life after he fell out of a moving bus near Nanthoor on Wednesday August 30.

The deceased is identified as Guru (23), a resident of Thadambail, Surathkal. He was serving as a conductor on route number 15 which was on its way to Katipalla from Mangaladevi.

Guru was standing on the foot board. The incident, captured on a car’s dashcam showed Guru accidentally falling off from the moving bus at Nanthoor circle.

He was rushed to the hospital immediately, but succumbed to injuries.

    I was in Chennai for a month recently. All the city buses,are govt operated.they move in an average speed, but conductors keep warning passengers on foot board travelling.

    Reckless driving by city private buses has neen a constant issue in the city, dont know what's the urgency they just come over you all the time MVD should monitor or speed reducing techniques like blue key to maintain spped limits in the city

    Overspeeding, rash driving to get to the next stop to get passengers ahead of the next bus, having no doors or properly closing ones, constant pressure of getting the maximum people onto their bus, all these combined have resulted in the loss of a young person, Guru. Om Shanthi... The concerned authorities , bus service associations , general public ...it's high time that these issues be tackled once for all by taking relevant measures to ensure safety of people in the bus and out of it. Whether the buses are privatised or government, strict adherence to traffic rules and safety measures are a must, with strict monitoring and penalty clauses. This incident must not repeat...

    All private buses in the city of Mangalore should be banned and instead government buses should be introduced in its place like in Bangalore with proper rule. This is a curse to Mangalore city. Nobody can drive or walk safely with these buses are around. Total disaster.

    I watched the video captured by what seemed to be a police vehicle. He tumbled headfirst; this could have resulted in internal brain damage. Rest in peace.

    I used to see him everyday. The bus driver is always in some kind of urgency, its the drivers, the owner and the bus associations fault. But our ministers get nice commissions so why bother to improve the system. Rip Guru

    he used to work out in zeus I met him there and whenever I climbed his bus he never charged me , he used to talk about his life when we used to get to speak , he was such a good soul , may his soul rest in peace , rest in peace guru

    These long distance city buses wait for longer times than they are suppossed to...invariably waiting for the competitor to appear and then they fly off like a bullet..... The additional stoppage occurs at Surathkal Junction .Govindas College, Baikampady, Panambur .Kottara ,Urva stores and Lalbagh... Stop this and we will notice the difference....

    Habibi come to Dubai!! We don't have bus conductors here and also doors closed after each stop automatically. Need to punch in and out while you get in. RIP Guru. Gone too soon

    Dont we witness this crowded or speeding buses every single day in Mangalore? People hanging around the entry where a door is supposed to be? Most times by one leg balancing. Buses during peak hours are soo packed and yet people are pushed in at the following stop. The drivers over taking and racing like Formula One drivers. Lets hope this incident changes something! If theres a number to send proof of it happening, maybe share it. As long as an action is taken. Lets pray for Guru soul to rest in peace. Shanti Om.

    Doors should be made compulsorily. RTO, are you listening? Please see whether there are hand belts to hold for the passengers who are standing. See also the distance between the seats. Or else leave it to the bus association.

    The 15 number route the drivers and conductors are rash. Always in a racing mode to gain more revenue. No tickets issued in this route. The RTO silent spectator with the traffic police. The drivers drive rashly and harass the passengers and fellow users of the road by honking or flashing headlights. There should be atleast three to four government buses on this route, then the private bus mafia will learn a lesson. When the conductor of the bus is not safe can imagine the state of the passengers. This is a great eye opener to abolish the private bus mafia in the twin districts of Udupi and DK.

    Fifteen number route is a danger to all those in the bus as well as other road users. The drivers are maniacs - rash driving, continuous honking, use of abusive language etc. the conductors too are part of this. High time we had organised Government buses in Mangalore.
