Two hotel owners arrested in Chikkamagaluru for serving beef instead of mutton

Chikkamagaluru, Aug 30 (IANS): Karnataka police on Wednesday arrested two hotel owners in Chikkamagaluru district for allegedly serving beef to customers at their hotels instead of mutton.

The alleged incident took place under the limits of Chikkamagaluru City police station.

The arrested persons have been identified as Latif, the owner of Everest Hotel, and Shivaraj, the owner of Bengaluru Hotel.

Both Everest and Bengaluru are popular hotels in Chikkamagaluru City. It is alleged both the hotels served various dishes of beef claiming them to be mutton dishes.

The police had conducted raids after receiving complaints in this regard.

In another case, the police have seized 20 kg beef stored illegally at Nyamat Hotel in Chikkamagaluru. The police had raided the hotel after receiving a tip-off and arrested the hotel owner named Irshad Ahmad.

    This is wrong instead of giving mutton giving beef for other religions who not eat , they should be given life time prison , of what they did to Costumer, I am Muslim and I no how it feel when some giving pork and telling its mutton sane thing to others respect there religions respect there culture it’s wrong .

    Dear Monty Doctor, Mangalore, While your argument deserves to be empathized with, you would need to consider the liking of others as well. Recommending vegetarianism although is good, food is best left as individual choice by weighing its pros and cons. It is a complicated subject without doubt in the age of keto diet, etc. Veg diet is also kind to our digestive system.

    How can anyone eats someone's god unless that god is unable to prevent it being eaten and enjoyed in almost every country and unable to curse those who enjoy eating someone's god. Also most cursed upper castes feku bakths or their children love to settle abroad so that they can enjoy beef there without getting cursed or mob lynched by the same gang that they or their kids sponsor. Also they live and love to be slaves of beef pork eaters firangis than slog here and become great scientists like Homi Bhabha or Abdul Kalam pre viswesharaya and make barath grate again.

    This is fraud. Simple and straight. Their licenses should be cancelled. What is the problem in making a menu of mutton and beef and serve both (yes, mutton is very expensive I hear)? On a lighter note, the owners may run a survey and collect feedback on what appealed the customers' taste buds better, so that they can full time include beef in the menu if their license is not revoked. Siddu from INDIA is in charge, so such fraud will be dealt with soft hands.

Nobody is complaining about microplastics in every food which is causing cancer in so many people regardless of faith.     Imagine the plight of those people who have been eating in these restaurants all these years. Let's hope people around this place will decorate these restaurants in the best way possible. Also the authorities must consider bulldozer therapy to the owner's house and these restaurants.

    When I came to Mumbai after my studies, I was living in my cousin's house, who had a big bakery. He used to get large orders for mutton patties, mutton samosa and hot dogs from churches specially during festivals. I saw, he was never using mutton, but only beef. I asked him it is not mutton, he said I have no sense and told me to keep quiet. In Byculla, there was a very famous Goan restaurant and they were serving all mutton delicacies. I saw every morning, large quantity of beef was delivered to them and never mutton. Occasionally, we used to order mutton preparations from one Shetty restaurant and we found mixture of beef and mutton. I asked the manager, he did not answer but smiled. That was enough answer for my question. Friends, this is reality. With Rs 800 per kg, if only mutton is used, they cannot make any profit. On and above that, they have to pay hafta to police, local gunda, licensing people and politicians. Police know this, and only when hafta is not paid, they catch the hoteliers.

    Santhan Mascarenhas Bangalore.yes hoteliers have to live.And their customers too.Its not fine to deceive customers by giving beef instead of mutton.When one finds out his carreer is gone .No BUsiness ,case by police he will never survive.Give what is spoken but charge it more when it is costly.One should have belief in customer and vice versa.When in chickmagaluru hotel why serve beef telling mutton.Taste is quite different and consistancy also .he should be punished .Now his name is gone never again others will believe in him.

    Harish, In Mumbai, in a christian housing society, they killed a pig during Christmas. Someone in the neighbourhood complained to the police. Police came and found the pork. They gave the report. When case came for hearing, the society advocate argued, what is pig mutton, because the police inspector wrote he found pig mutton instead of pork. Case was dismissed, by the magistrate.
