Mumbai, Aug 10 (IANS): P.C. Alexander, who died Wednesday at the age of 90, was not only Maharashtra's longest serving governor but also one of its finest and won respect from the treasury benches and opposition alike.
This tribute came from present Maharashtra Governor K. Sankaranarayanan, who offered condolences in a message addressed to Alexander's son Ashok.
"It would be fair to say that Alexander created benchmarks for fellow and future governors," Sankaranarayanan noted, describing him as "not only the longest serving governor in the state but also as one of its finest".
Sankaranarayanan said that during his tenure as governor between January 1993 and July 2002, Alexander brought his vast experience as an international diplomat.
"Alexander commanded supreme respect both from the treasury and the opposition benches because of his dignified and impartial conduct," he added.
