Mangaluru, Aug 31: "The government was observing Narayana Guru Jayanti in great way. But, now, unfortunately the government officials themselves are not attending this function. Narayana Guru is saint to all," said MLA Umanath Kotian.
He was speaking during the Shri Bhramashri Narayan Guru Jayanti programme held at the premises of Shri Gokarnatheshwara Kshetra in Kudroli.
"Neither the district in-charge minister nor the deputy commissioner have attended this programme. This programme should not be for namesake," he added.
Resource person Dr Arun Ullal said, "Shri Narayana Guru gave importance to education. He laid emphasis on Sanskrit and English Languages. He immensely worked to end untouchability. We should question ourselves why we cannot learn the scriptures created by the upper castes. Because of this, we were lagging behind."
The guru also worked to make society free from addiction, he said.
MLA Vedvyas Kamath said Bhramashri Narayan Guru is the saint who lead the world with his principles and preaching. "He worked towards peace in society. He showed that anything can be won with peace. He installed 41 temples," he added.
"He worked to end untouchability and religious conversions. The government should take this programme seriously. We all should inculcate the principles of the Guru in our life," Kamath said.
H S Sai Ram, mayor Jayanand Anchan, Prashanth B Patil and others were present.
