Mangaluru: ‘Aloysian Youth Icon’ award launched to recognize young alumni achievers

Mangaluru, Sep 1: Established in 1880 on the highest peak of Mangaluru, St Aloysius College has created a niche for itself for imparting quality education to the youth for 143 glorious years. Presently, the college has been ranked among one of the best colleges in the country.

One of the significant initiatives of the college has been the establishment of a vibrant and dynamic alumni base in the form of St Aloysius College Alumni Association (SACAA). SACAA has been a pillar of support and solidarity to the management in upgrading and up-scaling of the institution in all parameters of higher education. The SACAA has been a catalyst in the progress of the college and one of the proactive steps was the institution of, ‘The Eminent Aloysian Awards’. Several distinguished alumni of the institution have been conferred with this award in recognition of their yeomen service to society at the regional, state, national and international levels being veritable ambassadors of Aloysian vision and mission.

As an extension of this recognition, the SACAA is proud to launch another initiative to recognize young alumni achievers who have carved a niche for themselves in various fields of endeavours by instituting an unique award titled the ‘Aloysian Youth Icon’ from 2023 with the objective of identifying and recognizing young alumni with high credentials and distinctive achievements in order to inspire students to emulate a way of life and success.

The SACAA looks forward to recognize young alumnus/a between the age of 25-35 which could be extended to 40, for candidates from the academic sector. Besides, the candidate should have completed 7 years of service after leaving the institution or should have served the institution/s with 7 years of uninterrupted service. The candidate must have a distinctive track record of upholding the institutional core values and should have demonstrated highest level of honesty, integrity and ethics at all levels.

An independent committee representing various fields of expertise will process and critically review the profiles and applications before submitting the report to the management committee for their consideration. The management committee constituted especially for the purpose, after due consideration of the basic objectives and criteria will finalize the name/s of the awardee/s. Some of the areas for consideration would be art, entertainment, media, scholarship (research), sports & games, entrepreneurship, professional excellence, social service, environmental initiatives. But these areas are only indicative and not exclusive.

The management and SACAA are proud to launch this innovative project towards celebrating the iconic young Aloysian alumni, who have not only attained excellence in their personal distinctions but also contributed to the society in a significant way besides inspiring current students through their exemplary values.

The SACAA wishes to receive recommendations of candidates from all well-wishers of the institution for the success of this wonderful youth programme.
