New Delhi, Sep 1 (IANS): A 37-year-old key member of the infamous Lawrance Bishnoi syndicate, who was previously involved in 16 heinous crimes including murder, attempt to murder among others, was arrested in Delhi’s Rohini area, an official said on Friday.
The accused, identified as Anjeet, was in contact with gangsters Goldy Brar and Anmol Bishnoi and knew of many targets given by them.
Police said that they have also recovered one semi-automatic pistol with five bullets from his possession.
The Special Commissioner of Police (special cell) H.G.S Dhaliwal said that specific information was received about the movement of Anjeet, a close aide of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, Goldy Brar and Monu Dagar, near Heliport, Rohini.
“Acting swiftly on the inputs, a trap was laid near Heliport, and Anjeet was apprehended with one semi-automatic pistol of .32 bore with five live cartridges,” said Dhaliwal.
Upon interrogation, it emerged that Anjeet in 2016, while he was in Sonepat Jail, came into contact with one Monu Dagar, a close aide of Anmol Bishnoi and Goldy Brar.
“Soon, they became fast friends. After coming out of jail, he remained in contact with Monu Dagar through Facebook, and through Monu, he came into contact with Anmol Bishnoi and Goldy Brar,” said the Special CP.
In January this year, he was tasked with kidnapping a travel agent in Karnal for extortion by Anmol Bishnoi, but the plan failed when co-accused persons were apprehended by the police in Panipat.
“However, he managed to escape. He conducted reconnaissance on a number of Lawrence Gang targets. He was also tasked with doing a recce of a businessman in Gurugram by Goldy Brar. Anjeet has also been declared ‘Proclaimed Offender’ in various cases registered against him in Sonepat, Haryana, as he has been evading court proceedings for a long time,” the official added.
