Udupi, Sep 1: Two workers who were tasked with emptying a fishing boat's storage of fish at Malpe port on Friday, September 1 evening fell ill after inhaling poisonous gas.

Raju and Jaya, hailing from Orissa, had descended into the storage area of the fishing boat, which had recently returned from a fishing trip departing from Malpe port. Unfortunately, they encountered poisonous gas within the storage unit, leading to breathing difficulties.

Fortunately, local fishermen and social worker Ishwar Malpe promptly came to their rescue.

They extracted the workers from the storage unit, administered essential CPR first aid, and promptly transported them to a hospital in Manipal for further medical attention.

Thankfully, the workers are now reported to be out of danger and receiving medical care.
