Udupi: Why is opposition afraid of ‘one election’, asks Shobha Karandlaje

Daijiworld Media Network – Udupi (MS)

Udupi, Sep 2: Union minister Shobha Karandlaje opined that one nation, one election is the solution for the stoppage of development works due to repeated elections.

Speaking at the press conference at Manipal on Friday September 1, Shobha said, “We feel that elections should be held throughout the country at a time as development works are affected three to four months in a year due to elections. In Kerala, elections of rural and city local bodies are held at the same time. If the parliament and assembly elections are held in similar manner, it is possible to save time, effort and money. There is no need for opposition political parties to get scared. I do not know why they are opposing this proposal.

“All parties campaign for elections. However, the voters choose their leaders. In some states, including Karnataka, many issues have happened due to free schemes. If free schemes are given to everyone all will be happy. But it is not right to snatch from some people and give the same to others.

“The judges and teachers of Karnataka have not received their salaries. Money for many projects is not released. Even social security schemes have run out of funds. The Congress is thinking that if guarantees are fulfilled, it is more than enough. The state’s contribution to Kisan Samman scheme of the union government is stopped. The chief minister should look into the losses incurred by the private bus operators and also KSRTC.

“Digital India has created one more record. The UPI payments have reached Rs 1000 crore in 2023 there by creating a new milestone. We can remember Congress economist P Chidambaram ridiculing the idea of Digital India in the parliament in 2017,” she said.

Anything or any policy Modi govt has bought starting from DeMo, all proven monumental disasters. Only bouught pain and misery to people. Now, people are sick and tired of BJP, across the country. Changing the current election process, where no matter what votes somehow gets to BJP is the only way out for BJP.

Technically there is no great problem in having one time elections... However voting twice at the same instant may need some voter training ... One thing good about differed timings is that nation will know the popularity of the incumbent party in power and that's a great thing... Or else we have to tolerate the antics for the full five year term... Best thing to do is to hold interim referendum after 2 years of one time elections so that people have a say about the performance....

If Shobha wants to know why the opposition is agaist one election for the Union Government and the State Government, here is why: our government is of a federal structure. States are distinct from the Union government. By holding synchronized election for the Union and the State legislatures, you are destroying the independence of the states and their values and priorities. The BJP at the Centre is under the impression that they can win the States too by reciting the name of Modi. After the 2024 elections they will realize that there is no magic in somebody's name. This has been amply proved in the Karnataka Assembly elections of 2023. So, Chobakka, please stop ranting and railing.
