Udupi, Sep 2: Pedestrians are facing numerous problems in the city every day. The signal light poles that are stacked on footpath near old Diana Circle is causing inconvenience to the pedestrians.

Smart City related work was agreed upon for holding various developmental works in the city on PPP basis. Installing signal lights was one of them. Installing signal lights with LED screen at city area, Manipal and at Ambagilu on the outskirts, 5G Wi-Fi facility, and smart modern bus stand were included in the project.

Trenches were dug at various places in the city and foundation was also put for the signal lights. However, now the work is stopped.

At Tiger Circle in Manipal, signal lights were installed on experimental basis. Now only huge signal light poles are there but they are not used. Similarly Syndicate Circle and Kalsanka Junction also have met the same fate.

Nityananda Volakadu of Udupi district civilian committee said, “Signal light poles installing project is already approved by the city municipality. The concrete basement for the same is already built. However, that too is not done properly. Huge signal light poles are kept on footpath which is causing inconvenience to public as well as motorists. Signal lights installed at Manipal are also not used. The city municipality and district administration should make proper arrangements for smooth movement of motorists and pedestrians.”

Huge signal lights are kept on the footpath near old Diana Circle, which is one of the areas that is accessed by most public in the city. This is dangerous for both public and traffic. They are lying there since a month.
