Udupi: Car driver sentenced to 8 months in prison for pedestrian's death

Udupi, Sep 3: In a legal verdict handed down by the Second Additional CJ and JMFC Court, Mohammed Asif (20), a resident of Udupi-Manipur, has been sentenced to eight months of simple imprisonment for causing the death of a pedestrian in a car accident.

The incident occurred in 2020 when the accused, Asif, was driving his car recklessly from Ambalpady junction to Karavali junction, resulting in a collision with pedestrian Seetaram. Seetaram sustained serious injuries in the accident and tragically passed away in the hospital.

The case was filed by the then Traffic CI Manjunatha after a thorough investigation, leading to the chargesheet being presented in court.

Following the inquiry conducted by Justice Somanath, Asif was found guilty and subsequently sentenced to eight months of simple imprisonment. In addition to the prison term, he was fined Rs 500.

Senior public prosecutor Jayanti K represented the prosecution during the legal proceedings.
