Mangaluru, Sep 4: The Mysore Divisional Level Handball Tournament of the education department (Under 14 Boys and Girls, Under 17 Boys and Girls) for the academic year 2023–24 was held on Sunday at Government High School, Nalyapadavu, Shakthinagar, Mangaluru. MLA Vedavyasa Kamath, along with the other dignitaries on the dais, inaugurated the tournament by releasing pigeons. Corporator Vanitha Prasad, presided over the inaugural function.
Shakila Kava and Kishore Kottari, the corporators of neighbouring wards, encouraged the event with their presence. The JD and principal of CTE, Mangaluru, Cyprian Monteiro, Dayananda Nayak - DDPI, Dakshina Kannada, H Eshwar - block education officer, Mangaluru South, Prashanth Kumar K S - BRC coordinator, Bhuvanesh, DPEO, Ravishankar, TPEO, Thyagam - divisional level Physical Education Teachers' Association secretary, Lilly Pais - district Physical Education Teachers' Association president, Harish Rai - district Physical Education Teachers' Association secretary, team officials, team managers, heads of the educational institutions of Nalyapadavu, SDMC president Harish, president of Padavu Friends Club - Kushal Kumar, Suraksha committee member Ashok Nayak and other members were present.
As many as 32 teams representing eight districts reported on the eve of the event. The speaker of the state legislative assembly, U T Khader, visited the venue and wished all the teams well. Ruth Sylvia Castelino, physical education instructor of GHS Nalyapadavu, and Preetham Kumar, PET, Bharath High School, Ullal, were honoured by Vedavyasa Kamath and the other dignitaries for their selfless service and the wonderful arrangements made for the tournament at the short notice of 4 days.
The headmistress of GHS Nalyapadavu, Vijayakumari, welcomed the gathering; Ruth Sylvia Castelino, PET Nalyapadavu High School, proposed the vote of thanks; and Alwyn Vincent Lobo, PET Capitanio High School, compered.
The following teams qualified for the state-level tournament:

2) Under-17 Girls: Mysore (I); Udupi (II)
3) Under-14 Boys: Dakshina Kannada (I); Udupi (II)
4) Under-14 Girls: Mandya (I); Mysore (II)
