Mangaluru: KNS holds 21st poetry recitation, 55th elocution competition at Don Bosco Hall

Mangaluru, Sep 5: Konkani Natak Sabha (KNS) conducted the 21st poetry recitation competition and 55th Konkani elocution Competition for children and adults on Sunday September 3 as part of its annual competitions at Don Bosco Hall here.

The poetry recitation competition in association with Kavitha Trust® was held in the morning. The event commenced with a prayer and the KNS anthem. Liston Derrick D'Souza, vice president of KNS welcomed the participants and the gathering. Melwyn Rodrigues, inaugurated the competition by lighting the lamp and wished the participants all success to their future. General secretary of KNS Floyd D'Mello, assistant secretary of KNS Cletus Lobo, Titus Noronha, trustee of Kavitha Trust and competition conveners Joachim Pinto and Stany Bela were present on the dais.

A total of 45 participants took part in three categories of the competition.

Melwyn Rodrigues and Titus Noronha officiated as judges for the competition. Vincent Pinto Angelore assisted in conducting the same.

The 55th elocution competition was held in the afternoon. Dr Rocky D'Cunha, president of KNS, delivered an encouraging message to the participants, wishing them the best. KNS executive members and judges of the competition inaugurated the competition by lighting the lamp. Liston Derrick D'Souza, Floyd D'Mello, Cletus Lobo and competition convenor Jerome Moras were present on the dais.

Renowned poets of Konkani, Marcel D’Souza (Machcha Milar) and Felcy Lobo Derebail, resource persons Philomena Tauro and Juliana Mascarenhas served as the esteemed judges for the competition.

A total of 136 participants from 5 different categories showcased their talents in this year's elocution competition.

The competition received valuable support from KNS Angelore unit members, and assistance from the KNS managing committee members.

KNS manager Boniface Pinto, and former vice-president of KNS Sunil Menezes handled the computation of scores.

Joseph Theodore announced the results. Floyd D’Mello compered the programme and concluded with a vote of thanks.

- September 17, 9-30 am onwards: 59th singing competition (Grand Finale)
- September 24, 4 pm onwards: Annual day celebration and prize distribution.
