Mangaluru, Sep 4: Library Week 2023 (August 28 – September 1) at St Agnes PU College began with a flurry of programmes that set an exciting tone to the whole event and sent an adrenaline rush among the students who enthusiastically participated in the numerous competitions and won prizes.
The book exhibition held in connection with the Library Week celebrations was inaugurated by Dr Vishala BK, chief librarian, St Agnes College. She stressed the value of reading books to accomplish lofty goals in life. Books are a veritable gold mine of life skills because it enhances confidence and enables one to face challenges boldly. She expressed her appreciation and congratulated the students for planning and organizing the whole event in a unique and engaging manner.
The cultural cornucopia that set the tone for the rest of the week included a kathak group dance, book review, book cinematic, pick and speak, poetry writing et al. The purpose of celebrating Library Week was to raise awareness about the scope of libraries and the inestimable role they play in society. This is significant especially in this automated age where technology is paramount.
Caroline warmly welcomed the audience, Manvitha ably compered the programme, while Vaishnavi delivered the vote of thanks. Hannah spoke on the significance of library week and Diya conducted a quiz on the occasion. The dignitaries the principal Sr Norine D’Souza, vice principal Sr Janet Sequeira, the convenor Dr Tressie Menezes and the lecturer Avitha D’Souza witnessed the programme along with the faculty and students.
