Mangaluru, Sep 5: The District Level Wrestling Tournament was held at St Agnes High School on September 4. The tournament stood as a shining testimony to the indomitable spirit of sportsmanship and athleticism. This grand spectacle was meticulously prepared by the devoted staff of the school.

The inauguration of this illustrious match began with a breathtaking guard of honour that left spectators in awe.

Following the guard of honour, a moment of profound spirituality graced the proceedings as the school choir added a soul-stirring prayer song.

The surroundings took on a vibrant and culturally wealthy hue with a charming welcome dance performance by the troupe of gifted classical dancers. Teacher Prathima K B welcomed the gathering with an affable welcome speech

Symbolizing the victory of understanding over ignorance, light over darkness, and the embodiment of enlightenment, the ceremonial lighting fixtures of the lamp held a profound significance. Esteemed chief guest Honourable mayor Jayanada Anchan, the joint secretary of St Agnes Institutions Sr Dr Maria Roopa AC, guest honour Naveen Dsouza, local corporator, Bimba Manoj Kumar, BEO South Ishwar H R, and the headmistress of the school Sr Gloria A.C along with the senior officials of fraternity performed this traditional ritual.

In his opening address the mayor praised the tireless efforts of the headmistress and the faculty in presenting the first ever district level wrestling tournament. He also encouraged the wrestlers to give their best performance. The joint secretary supported the tireless efforts of the students. Bimba Manoj Kumar made a motivational speech which lifted the sportsmanship of wrestling prowess.

Amidst the lively surroundings, the national level sportsmen Kavitha Ashok, Deepak Anchan, Supreeth J B were felicitated. These awesome athletes had brought sizeable pleasure to the district and had also raised the banner high at the countrywide level. It turned into a poignant reminder that goals can be realized with unwavering commitment. Almost 45 schools of the district took part in the tournament. Alva’s School Moodbidri won the overall championship, under 14 boys and under 17 boys category. Navachethana School Neermarga won the overall championship under 17 girls category. Ladyhill Victoria School won the under 14 girls trophy. Six students of St Agnes High School are selected for the state level wrestling tournament.

Bhavya Ravindra, physical education teacher expressed heartfelt gratitude to the multitude of individuals, groups, and selfless volunteers whose unwavering help and determination made the tournament a remarkable achievement.
