India vs Bharat: Modi regime reduced to ‘name changer’ govt, says Priyank Kharge

Bengaluru, Sep 6 (IANS): Karnataka IT Minister Priyank Kharge on Wednesday came out strongly against Narendra Modi-led BJP saying that the party assumed power in the Centre claiming to be a "game changer" but has been reduced to a mere ‘name changer’ government.

He was reacting to the Centre's plan of renaming India as 'Bharat'.

Taking to the social media, Minister Kharge said before 2014, India was competing with developed countries like America, Russia and Britain.

They (BJP) have sown the seeds of hatred between castes and ethnic groups in the name of Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh models. Now, they have created a ‘Manipur model’, he stated.

"What more can be expected from BJP which has brought down the country to compare itself with powerless ones like Pakistan, Bangladesh and Srilanka?" Kharge wondered.

The efficient rulers in Bharat brought changes on ground without changing the names, he taunted.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has said that the Modi-led Central government’s move to rename the country as Bharat is not required.

He maintained that the Constitution mentions the name of the country as India and is a name which is agreed upon by one and all. "There is no need for renaming it," he added.

Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar said that "the Central government and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, out of fear of our Indian National Democratic Inclusive Alliance (INDIA), are up to changing the name of Republic of

India into Republic of Bharat".

"One can observe that the BJP and Central government are seeing their defeat in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. The Indian currency has the name India on it and attempts are made to change it," Shivakumar stated.

Name changing is to fool the citizens for vote. Is there any benefit to the citizens, no, nil. Haamm gruha jyoti gruhaiaxmi, annabhagya, free bus for females are all having benefits to humans. Modi must think of Karnataka model of government. People should be benefited. There is no benefit from name chantings of any kind.

This name changing or renaming spree was initiated by Shiv Sena in the mid 1990s when Bombay was renamed as Mumbai. This was followed by Poona to Pune, Madras to Chennai, Calcutta to Kolkata, Trivandrum to Tiruvananthapuram, Cochin to Kochi and finally Bangalore to Bengaluru. Was this futility really necessary by various parties in their respective states? Now why blame BJP alone?

When will BJP supporters realize that Modi is only concerned about power? People are struggling to find jobs, and the economy is in bad shape, but he seems indifferent to these issues. However, he appears to be more concerned about the Brahmin caste than other castes and minorities.

Modi govt has flourished on gimmicks and back door tactics... Common man has not benefitted from the 9 year rule... Only saving grace is good foreign policy with Mr. jaishankar at the helm... Also to an extent almost nil terrorist attacks which are anyway down all over the world.... With growing public resentment towards atrocious elected leaders IT cell must have given indication of a possible flak in 2024... So new ideas are being generated to keep up the tempo of public craze.... With almost nothing to talk about socioeconomic development only thing remaining is to attempt social polarization to keep the majority flock together... PM is too used to emperor like facilities at public expense and may not want to be out of it anytime soon...
