Mangaluru, Sep 6: Minister of Housing and Minority Welfare Zameer Ahmed Khan has called for the expedited preparation of a progress report covering housing and minority welfare activities in the district spanning from 2013 to 2023. Expressing his disappointment with the lack of comprehensive details provided by officials during a recent progress review meeting at the zilla panchayat Auditorium, he directed them to compile the report within the next 10 days, as he plans to convene another progress review meeting shortly.
The minister emphasized the need for this report to encompass the development undertaken by the Slum Development Board, the Housing Board, the Rajiv Gandhi Housing Corporation, the Minority Development Board, and the Minority Welfare Directorate within the Housing Department over the past two decades. He issued a stern warning, stating that immediate action would be taken if any false information was furnished, as he possessed accurate information himself.
Furthermore, the minister urged the compilation of a report detailing pending cases related to properties within the jurisdiction of the Wakf Board.
He stressed the importance of ensuring that residential schools and hostels under the Minority Department provide proper facilities and high-quality food. He cautioned that he would conduct surprise inspections and take necessary action should any lapses be identified.
Addressing a recent incident of negligence in a minority hostel for post-matric students on Valencia Road, the Minister questioned the commitment of those responsible, reminding them of their government salaries and the need to perform their duties diligently. He asserted that irregularities in hostels and residential schools would not be tolerated.
In attendance were Parishat members Harish Kumar and Manjunath Bhandary.
