Mangaluru: Mount Carmel celebrates Nativity Feast, nature festivals, observes Girl Child Day

Mangaluru, Sep 9: Mount Carmel Central School, Mangaluru celebrated the Nativity Feast, nature festivals and Girl Child Day on September 7.

The programme for the seniors was hosted by the students of grade VIII A and VIII B which began with the famous konkani song ‘sakkad sangatha melya’, where a few students offered flowers to Mother Mary and honoured her on her birthday. The divine blessings were invoked through a meaningful prayer service. A group of dancers welcomed the audience by tapping to the semi classical beats, followed by Jovial Anna Dsouza welcoming the esteemed chief guest of the day Fr Vincent Vinod Saldanha, manager, Codialbail Press, Principal Sr Melissa and all present for the programme. Ananjan Ajith Soman and Reana Leora Mascarenhas highlighted the significance of the day through a PPT presentation.

Girl, a wonderful and unique gift from God, ‘where and in what state is this little sunshine, laughter and happiness in our world today?’ was brought out meaningfully through a MIME show. The importance of family and respecting the elders was highlighted through a heart touching skit. Adding to the spectacle, the students danced to the tunes of various harvest festivals of India.

Fr Vincent Vinod Saldanha, the chief guest in his speech, wished the students on this auspicious occasion. He motivated the students to be knowledgeable, kind and stressed on the importance of respecting everyone. Sr Melissa, the principal addressing the students urged them to respect every girl and care for the elders in their families. Rochelle Marie Lobo delivered the vote of thanks and the programme was compeered by Jinelle Juanna Pinto, Neha Andrea Castelino and Manav Menon. The programme ended with the school song.

Prior to this day, the Catholic students had novena in preparation for the feast of nativity, by offering a flower each to Mother Mary during the novena prayer.
