Mumbai: Monti Fest celebration held at Sacred Heart Church, Andheri East

Mumbai, Sep 11: Monthi Fest, the much loved traditional feast of Mangalureans, which represents the birthday of Blessed Mother Mary coincides with the festival of new harvest is being celebrated all over the world every year with much fervor and enthusiasm.

Konkani committee of Sacred Heart Church, Andheri East, Mumbai, celebrated Monthi Fest of Mother Mary for the forth year in succession on September 10. The devotees prayed in front of the decorated grotto in the church premises.

Fr Edwin Vas (SVD), blessed the new harvest paddy grains near the grotto. Children offered flowers to Mother Mary. Fr Edwin Vas (SVD), was the main celebrant and Fr Valerian Fernandes (SVD) delivered a meaningful homily. Fr Edwin Vas (SVD) carried Mother Mary statue decorated with flowers in procession to the Church. Parish priest, Fr John Mascarenhas, Fr Sandesh Patil (SVD), Fr Salvador Serrao (SVD), Fr Sylvester Rego (SVD), Fr Sundar Maggimai (SVD), Fr Scaria Pannackal (SVD) and Fr Felix Lobo (SVD), concelebrated the Mass.

A short cultural programme was organized at St Arnolds School hall. Welcome dance was performed by the children. Entertaining comedy skits and dances was performed.

Fr John Mascarenhas and Fr Edwin Vas presented flowers to the donors. Konkani committee secretary, Francis Castelino welcomed the gathering. President, Tressy Peris gave the thank you note and treasurer Anella Quadros read out the donors names and thanked them.

Lastly, Fr Sylvestor Rego blessed the Novem Jevam and all enjoyed the delicious meal. Sugarcane and New harvest was distributed to all.
