Udupi, Sep 11: The annual meeting of district cooperative sugar factory, Brahmavar at the Ashraya Hotel was adjourned as members expressed anguish and condemned the deployment of bouncers.
The members who were angry as they did not receive the notice of the meeting arrived on the dais, held heated arguments with president Suprasad Shetty and took the management committee to task at the beginning of the meeting.
The members questioned the cause for appointing bouncers to a meeting of the farmers. The president said that the bouncers were appointed for his security and he offered to send the bouncers out.
S Prakashchandra Shetty, Hariprasad Shetty Kanmakki, Rajiv Shetty, Pradeep Shetty and others joined their voice asking why the notice of the meeting was not received by them.
President Bykady Suprasad Shetty said that the notice might have been delayed due to technical reasons. “We are willing to increase the number of members and are prepared to start a programme to be members by missed call,” he said.
The members continued the commotion and shouted slogans against the management and officers of the sugar factory. As the members who gathered in front of the dais expressed anguish, the president announced that the meeting was adjourned.
