Birmingham, Aug 13: Will the fourth day of the third cricket test match between India and England be a mere formality? Can England wrap up the remaining 9 Indian wickets and win the series on day 4? Well, these questions will be answered before the end of the penultimate day of the test match which is about to get under way here at Edgbaston on August 13.
The third day of the test was once again dominated by the England bowlers, and criticism poured in from all corners especially from Indian cricket fans and experts over India's persistently poor performance. Lack of enthusiasm and interest has brought India down, say many.
Sunil Gavaskar came down heavily on the Indian team and said that the current team has no interest in the game, and perhaps they were trying to finish off the match quickly. Other senior cricketers like Bishan Singh Bedi, Arun Lal, Farook Engineer, Surinder Khanna and Atul Wasan criticised the Indian team for showing no resistance on England soil.
But Syed Kirmani had some words of sympathy for the team, and blamed an overdose of cricket for the poor performance. "We must give them time, we cannot judge the performance of the No 1 test nation on the basis of a couple of test matches. I am sure the team will bounce back soon."
With nine wickets in hand, India are still 450-plus behind and defeat looks imminent. Only rain can save the Indian from another humilating defeat. All eyes are on Sachin, if he can bring about a miracle or at least reach the magical figure of 100th 100.
