Udupi, Sep 12: 'Guruvandana, an event of the school's ruby jubilee year to honour the former teachers of St Mary's English Medium School was held on September 10 at Fr J P Tauro Memorial hall. The invitees were welcomed by a thematic classical dance performed by students.
Maxim D'Souza and Col Dr Arthur Rodrigues respectively the vice president and the secretary of the parish pastoral council of Mother of Sorrows Church, Udupi were the guests on the stage. Principal Fr Johnson Sequeira in his introductory remarks expressed his heartfelt gratitude towards the dedicated service and the outstanding contributions of the former staff in the progress of the school.
The programme was uniquely inaugurated by unfurling the icon of a lotus and lighting the auspicious lamp. The former principal, vice principal, teachers and supportive staff who rendered valuable service at St Mary's were felicitated by the dignitaries with jubilee shawl, memento and gift.
The words of felicitations were read by Pushpalatha. The present staff were also rewarded with gifts as a token of appreciation. A wishing song was sung by the teachers' choir. The memorable moments of togetherness spent with the former staff were recollected through a video presented by Sonia Shetty. The invitees were entertained through a few lucky games conducted by Walter D'Souza.
Correspondent Fr Charles Menezes in his presidential address highlighted the influential role of teachers in moulding the character of students. A thematic dance depicting the passion and professional commitment of teachers was presented by teachers.
The members of school management committee Dr Herman D'Souza, Benedicta Fernandes and Roy Mathias were present on the occasion. Vice principal Rita Quadros proposed the vote of thanks. Usha Hegde and Bharathi anchored the event. The programme came to an end with the fellowship meal.
