New Delhi, Aug 14 (IANS) Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar Sunday greeted people on the eve of the Independence Day and said the ocassion reminded people of the sacrifices of freedom fighters.
In her message, Meira Kumar said though the country had made spectacular progress in different walks of life, a sizeable section of population continued to suffer from various forms of deprivations.
"Let us use this opportunity to introspect as to how far we have been able to fulfill the dream of modern India," the speaker said and urged people to rededicate themselves to the idea of an inclusive and tolerant society.
"As we all know, it was on this historic day when our long-suppressed people finally found a decisive voice," she said. "We also recall with a sense of reverence the supreme sacrifices made by our freedom fighters."
