Udupi, Sep 16: The ISTE in association with the co-curricular committee had organized ‘Engineer’s Day’ on September 15 in Sri Madhwa Vadiraja Institute of Technology and Management (SMVITM).
Dr Sreejith Padinhatteeri, assistant professor, Manipal Centre for Natural Sciences was the chief guest. Shashikala R, institutional coordinator, ISTE escorted the dignitaries to the dais after offering the floral tribute to the great engineer of the country Bharat Ratna Sir M Visvesvaraya. Invocation was done by first year student Sanjana. Akshatha Rao, assistant professor, department of ECE, who was the master of the ceremony, welcomed the gathering by highlighting the tremendous contribution of the Engineers in various fields and introduced the chief guest to the gathering. Dr Thirumaleshwar Bhat, principal started the talk by focusing on the struggles and contributions of Sir M Visvesvaraya. He said that though Sir M Visvesvaraya himself was a civil engineer, his contributions were not only confined to civil engineering, Visvesvaraya Iron and Steel Plant stands out as a great witness to his contributions to the field of mechanical engineering. He motivated the young engineers to read about the great work and life led by Sir M Visvesvaraya which will surely motivate the young minds who are eager to achieve in life.
The chief guest started the talk by giving an introduction to astronomy and mainly the sun, the importance of the sun, the dependency of human beings on the sun. Sun is a star, so the talk gave some basic information about the stars and reactions taking place inside and around the stars. As the chief guest was a part of Aditya L1, the next part of the lecture concentrated mainly on Aditya L1. The factors that influenced the study of the sun from space, the importance of L1 point and the Solar Ultraviolet Imaging Telescope (SUIT) were the other important takeaways of the wonderful session.
The chief guest distributed prizes to the winners of various competitions which were held on account of Engineers Day. Dr Ganesh Aithal, vice principal honoured the chief guest. Akshatha Rao proposed the vote of thanks. HoDs, faculties, staff and students were present for the programme.
