Jaipur, Sep 20 (IANS): Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday said that his Rajasthan counterpart Ashok Gehlot seemed to be quite nervous ahead of the Assembly elections.

CM Sarma arrived in Jodhpur on Wednesday to participate in the BJP's Parivartan Sankalp Yatra.

"That is why new announcements are being made nowadays. If public welfare had to be done, then the schemes would have been launched earlier," he said while interacting with the mediapersons at the Circuit House in Jodhpur.

"It is the tradition of Congress to distribute mobiles, laptops and spice packets before the elections. I have personally seen this tradition closely in Congress," the Assam Chief Minister, who was previously in the grand old party, said.

On the row over Sanatan Dharma remarks, he said: "If you say something against Islam, even in a debate, you get threats of 'Sar Tan Se Judaa'. The Congress has been silent even as the individuals related to INDIA bloc make repeated statements against Hinduism.

"Rahul Gandhi has not made any statement yet on the matter. This clearly means that the Gandhi family is also behind all this," he added.

On Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot's Jan Ashirwad Yatra slated to begin from September 25, he said: "No matter how many yatras one undertakes, the people will now want him to be at home."

Further, on the prices of diesel and petrol, the Assam CM said that petrol is cheaper by Rs 10 in Assam compared to Rajasthan. "Is this why the Rajasthan CM has been showing off by setting up a 'Mehengai Rahat Camp' here?"

He said that CM Gehlot should apologise for the excess amount being charged by the Rajasthan government for petrol and diesel and this drama of giving relief should be stopped.

He also criticised the government over increasing atrocities against women in Rajasthan.
