Mangaluru, Sep 21: St Joseph Engineering College, Vamanjoor, hosted the inauguration of First year BE classes for the batch of 2023-24 on Wednesday, September 20 in Kalam Auditorium. The inaugural ceremony was attended by all the first-year students. Prior to inaugural program, principal Dr Rio D'Souza, addressed the parents gathered in the auditorium. He spoke about monitoring their ward and the behavior pattern, method of studying, addiction to technology/social media and also mentioned about the importance of having good connection with teachers. Having a good bond with the child will make sure that the child shares everything with parents with ease.
Fr Wilfred Prakash D'Souza, director-SJEC, addressed the parents and spoke about the role of teachers & responsibility of each one of us in shaping the child's future, understanding the mindset of children, involvement in academics, monitoring where they spend their valuable time and moneyetc.,
Fr Kenneth R Crasta, assistant director, in his speech spoke about importance of Trust, growth of institution and changes that institute has seen over the period of 22 long years. The varieties of activities including curricular, extra curricular and sports give students a wide range of opportunity for growth.
Dr Purushothama Chippar, vice principal, SJEC spoke about the various opportunities at SJEC AICTE IDEA Lab, one of the best facilities available only in few institutions of the country where the innovative ideas are converted into reality with the support of faculties and tech gurus of the institution.
During the inaugural function principal welcomed the gathering and introduced the chief guest. In his address he thanked the students for selecting this college for followed by lighting the lamp. The department flags were unveiled by the hods of various departments along with student representative of the respective departments. Toppers were honoured with a flower by the chief guest. Fr Kenneth R Crasta spoke about his days at SJEC as a student and changes observed today.
P A Jose, retired general manager, MRPL, chief guest of the program inspired the students, reminding the dedication and commitment of Sir M Visvesvaraya and Thomas Alva Edison. He told the students not just to believe in luck but to do the best in the coming days. He advised saying if your efforts are enough no one can stop you from achieving the goal.
Fr Wilfred Prakash D'Souza advised students not to deviate from studies by falling in bad practices, instead focus on studies and other college activities. Dr K Jyothi delivered the vote of thanks. Rakesh Lobo, HR manager, conveners Olivia and Harsha were present on the occasion.
