Moodbidri: Session on Effective Teaching and Learning Strategies held at Carmel School

Moodbidri, Sep 22: The teachers of Carmel school had an ample opportunity to hear a session on the 5E model of teaching and learning on September 15 which was introduced by the NCF in the year 2005.

Resource persons were Sr Maria Shubha AC the retired principal of St Ann’s DEd College and Prof Anitha D'Cruz, the associate professor and in-charge principal of St Ann’s DEd College, Mangaluru took up the sessions and encouraged the teachers to be constructive in imparting knowledge to students. Sr Gracilda AC the principal and Sr Elena AC the administrator welcomed the guests with a sapling and a token of love and respect. Sr Preena the vice principal, Sr Ranitha and Sr Rosy the coordinators, graced the occasion with their presence.

Prof Anita D’Souza elaborated the concept that the phase 5E models focus on giving students space to apply what they have learnt. This will help them to develop a deeper understanding. Teachers may ask students to create presentations or conduct additional investigations to reinforce new skills. She also stressed that the 5Es represent five stages of sequence for teaching and learning that is Engage, Explore, Explain, Elaborate and Evaluate. Further valuable inputs were given on various teaching methods by Sr Maria Shubha AC. Queries raised by the teachers were also clarified simultaneously.

The session began with a prayer song sung by the teachers. The gathering was beautifully welcomed by Vidya. The programme was confidently compered by Telita. The vote of thanks was well articulated by Amritha.

The session was very knowledgeable and fruitful. Teachers will also adequately plan power objectives more effectively using the 5E model process. The teachers were thankful to the management for arranging such a beneficial session.
